Every year I give out Linux Live CD's to my friends and family. These CD's can be used when Windows is not functional. to retrieve your data and keep working. This year I am giving out a variety of types. Some have games, and some are basically toys for Nerds. Feel free to swap with a friend or duplicate.
Put CD in computer and reboot! (*)

network access may require some configuration, but it might just work!
(*) Depending on your system a few options may need to be set. My phone number is at the bottom if you need some of this basic help. Unfortunately, I will not be able to walk everybody through, so you may have to search for "Bios boot from cd"

Most of this software is free to use and distribute, and comes with the obligations to keep it freely distributable.
Of note: You may make copies of these disks and even sell them if you want to!!
Software on Most disks:
KDE - K Desktop Environment. This system is very similar to Windows, Click the "K" to start a program.
Open Office - It will read and write Microsoft Office files. It's not great, but it works.
Firefox web browser (called Ice Weasel in Knoppix due to minor changes that made the trademark not available)
Konqueror web browser ( Apple based thier web browser, Safari, on based part of KDE!)
Orange - Knoppix 5.1.1 - KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD-2007-01-04-EN.iso
+ tons of features - that work
+ games
+ works on older hardware with "knoppix desktop=fluxbox"

- a bit old so wireless networking drivers are not quite up to date
Blue - Mandriva 2008 - mandriva-linux-2008-one-KDE-cdrom-i586.iso
+ really pretty if compiz is enabled wireless was easy

+ unique and clean distro
- a bit clumsy menu system and is somewhat proprietary
